ARTCORE NEW MUSIC COMPETITION
Objectives:
- To find serious artists in the state; to provide an ongoing program for encouraging new music by these same composers;
- To give exposure to musical works of merit;
- To stimulate an interest in contemporary music in Wyoming audiences.
Judges:
- The manuscripts will be reviewed by qualified judges.
Award:
- The winner of the competition will be announced by ARTCORE. The winning manuscript will be performed by accomplished Wyoming musicians selected by ARTCORE advisors; performance arrangements will be based on the manuscript selected and the schedule of the performing musicians. There will be a cash prize of $300.
Schedule:
- Announced July 2007
- Manuscripts to be submitted (postmarked) by January 15, 2008
- Announcement of winner - Spring 2008
- Performance of winning manuscript - To be arranged during the 2008-2009 season.
Competition Rules:
- Performance time shall be limited to 20 minutes.
- Compositions must be submitted on music manuscript paper in black ink.
- Compositions shall not have been performed previously.
- Compositions shall be limited to no more than eight performers.
- Compositions may be for any combination of voice and/or instrument.
- Three copies of the manuscript must be submitted. Manuscripts will not be returned unless accompanied by a stamped, self-adressed envelope.
- Submit manuscripts to ARTCORE, P.O. Box 874, Casper, WY 82602.
- Manuscripts must be postmarked no later than January 15, 2008.
- If the judges do not feel that any of the submitted manuscripts are suitable, a winner will not be selected.
- Winner of the competition will have to provide one copy of each part at least six weeks prior to the performance.
- Entry fee is $15. Make check payable to ARTCORE.
- Enter as many manuscripts as you wish. Each requires an entry fee.
- The contest is open to all residents of Wyoming.
Partial funding is from the Wyoming Arts Council, through funding from the Wyoming State Legislature and the National Endowment for the Arts, which believes a great nation deserves art.
