Filament Duo

Filament is a collaboration between UW-Madison Percussion alumni DeLane Doyle and Aaron Gochberg. Before forming Filament, the duo had worked together in projects ranging from electroacoustic improvisation to videography to works of the standard percussion ensemble canon, and now under a new guise explore the connections between these seemingly disparate worlds. With a focus on expanding the percussion duo repertoire, Filament has commissioned works from composers including Elliot Cole, Wally Gunn, Dorian Wallace, Alyssa Weinberg, Juri Seo, and Jason Treuting.

DeLane Doyle is a composer, percussionist, and educator based in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, where he recently joined the percussion faculty at the Wisconsin Conservatory of Music. He has has given concerts across the United States in Carnegie Hall, as well as Nova Scotia, Ontario, Beijing, and Shenyang. As a strong advocate for new music, DeLane enjoys performing and commissioning new music. He has shared the stage with Chicago's Fifth House Ensemble, Sound Out Loud Ensemble, and Clocks in Motion new music ensemble. Recent commissions include works by Elliot Cole, Wally Gunn, Matthew Burtner, Alyssa Weinberg, and Dorian Wallace. As a soloist, DeLane has performed in numerous Percussive Arts Society Day of Percussion events, won runner up in the 2015 Wyoming Symphony Young Artists Competition, and was a Finalist in the 2014 UW-Madison Concerto Competition. DeLane's interest in electronic music was recently recognized by by Spartan Records as the grand prize winner of the Square Peg Round Hole remix competition.His interested in dance accompaniment has led him to positions at Interlochen Center for the Arts, University of Wisconsin- Madison, and University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. DeLane's compositions have been performed in collaboration with Interlochen Center for the Arts, Traverse City Dance Project, Dance Now Miami, and Li-Chiao Ping Dance.

Aaron Gochberg is a freelance percussionist and music educator based in Madison, WI. His musical training and eclectic experiences have provided him opportunities to perform in China, Carnegie Hall, the Overture Center for the Arts, and with artists and ensembles such as Sō Percussion, Clocks in Motion, Sound Out Loud Ensemble, Juan de Marcos Gonzalez, and Acoplados Latin Jazz Project. In 2016, Aaron was a performance fellow at the nief-norf Summer Festival where he performed, premiered, and recorded numerous works by both new and well-established composers. Aaron made his concerto debut in 2018, performing as a marimba soloist with UW-Madison Symphony Orchestra. Aaron holds a degree in Percussion Performance from UW-Madison, where his teachers included Dr. Anthony Di Sanza, Dr. Todd Hammes, and Tom Ross. In his studies of Afro-Cuban music, his teachers have included Alejandro Carvajal Guerra, Marino Angarica, Donald Skoog, Maximino Duquesne, Dolores Perez, Mario Aspirina Jauregui, and Luis Cancino Morales.
